A Message from the President

My name is JJ Naoki. I have succeeded a position of JASH board president from Mr. Rick Watanabe who was transferred to Los Angeles.

Based on involvement with The Japan-America Society of Houston for over ten years as a board member, I understand that the society plays very important role as a “bridge” connecting the US and Japan through its various activities here in Houston. Such grass-root activities of JASH are very meaningful and important for the mutual understandings of the two nations.

Since its incorporation in 1968, JASH has been promoting US-Japan relationship for over 40 years. Our current activities include but not limited to Japanese language classes, Texas Japanese Language Speech Contest, and Japan Festival. We also facilitate the sister city exchange programs between Houston and Chiba city. Furthermore, we support maintaining the Japanese Garden in Hermann Park.

Besides our activities, I would like to share with you our most recent improvement. Our office has moved to a new location within the same building. It now provides larger office/meeting space and more Japanese language class capabilities. Together with our new Executive Director, Ms. Shree Kurlekar, Mr. Taka Tsuruta, and other active volunteers, we would like to continue expanding our activities to further reach the community.

Thank you very much for your continuous support and please join us at the next event.

Junjiro (JJ) Naoki

Board President
